WordPress Plugin Development
The missing capability, built as a focused plugin.
When a WordPress site or product needs behavior beyond its theme, a custom plugin can keep that functionality independent. Our founder’s practical experience includes developing and publishing WordPress plugins, as well as maintaining them as requirements change.
Problems this service solves
Functionality that needs a clearer home.
Business rules inside a theme
Changing the site’s appearance should not remove an integration, a workflow, or the data it manages.
A manual connection between products
An external service needs to exchange data with WordPress, with authentication and failures handled deliberately.
A plugin product ready to mature
Settings, licensing, updates, and compatibility need attention alongside the feature itself.
WHAT WE CAN BUILD
Extensions with defined responsibilities.
Custom WordPress plugins
Site-specific workflows, administration tools, settings, and reusable functionality.
Built to work with WordPress, not against it.
- Gutenberg blocks
- Editor controls and frontend rendering that fit the content model and publishing needs.
- Service integrations
- API clients, synchronization jobs, webhook handling, and clear administrative error feedback. AI-connected extensions are an optional integration when the plugin needs them.
- Licensing and delivery
- Freemius integrations and licensing-aware behavior for plugin products where required.
- Plugin maintenance and compatibility
- An update path that accounts for installed versions, stored data, and changes in WordPress, PHP, or related plugins.
Engineering approach
Separate the feature from its dependencies.
We define what the plugin owns, what WordPress provides, and what depends on another plugin or service. External API calls, settings, and business rules have distinct responsibilities. Capabilities, nonces where appropriate, input validation, and output escaping are part of implementation.
Define boundaries
Specify data ownership, extension points, and required dependencies.
Handle the lifecycle
Consider activation, upgrades, stored data, and uninstall behavior before release.
Check compatibility
Agree a supported environment and test important behavior against the relevant WordPress and plugin versions.
Technologies & integrations
Tools chosen for the job.
- PHP & WordPress APIs
- Hooks, capabilities, settings, data access, and plugin lifecycle behavior.
- Gutenberg & JavaScript
- Custom blocks and editor interactions, using the WordPress editor’s existing foundations.
- REST APIs & Freemius
- External service connections and product licensing integrations when those are in scope.
Existing systems & ongoing development
Maintain a plugin through new requirements.
We can extend an existing plugin, investigate compatibility problems, or improve its architecture. Published products need an update path that accounts for installed versions and stored data; we review those constraints before changing behavior.
Before we begin
Questions about WordPress Plugin Development.
Can this be a plugin rather than theme code?
Usually, if the behavior should survive a theme change. Presentation can remain in the theme while the plugin owns the data, rules, or external connection.
Can you integrate Freemius?
Yes, where the product calls for it. We define licensing states, feature access, and update behavior around the chosen distribution model rather than assuming one set of commercial terms.
How do you handle compatibility?
We agree which WordPress, PHP, and related plugin versions matter, then test relevant behavior. Future platform updates may require further maintenance; compatibility is an ongoing concern.
What happens to data when a plugin is removed?
We decide that explicitly. Deactivation, uninstall, and permanent data deletion are different events, and important data should not disappear as an accidental side effect.
Work in context
- WPBits Block Studio
Collaboratively developed under the WPBits brand, with the founder’s contribution described on Work.
Work directly with the engineer
What should WordPress be able to do?
Describe the feature, the plugins or services it depends on, and whether it is for one site or a distributed product. You’ll work directly with our founder, Kerem Yılmaz Güney, on the technical decisions and implementation.
